Antiwar is holding a fundraiser that will allow it to continue sending up flares alerting readers to the thumpings of war drums and Tazing of civil liberties in the War on Terror that threatens to end sometime around the eon when Norman Podhoretz's great-great-great grandchildren graduate from college on Mars.

Today's must-read: Timothy Garton Ash on Britain's salami-slicing of civil liberties in Britain, which has authoritarian "moderates" such as NY Daily News columnist Michael Goodwin salivating with covetous envy.

Also, asking for alms this week is Counterpunch, which not only covers state oppression that other sites scant--such as this country's incarcertation culture and internal archipelago of prisons--but makes room for personal testimonies such as Jeffrey St. Clair's fond, vivid remembrance of Norman Mailer.
